It might have been a kind of drama, maybe even a quiet, dramatic experience. But I often wonder how many people actually know where the word “drama” comes from. In Greek, dran means “to act.” A story begins when an idea in the mind takes form and turns into movement.
When I make what I imagine a little more real and put it into action, I open myself to things I could never have planned. Sometimes they feel dramatic, sometimes simply unexpected.
Johannes was a skater I used to enjoy watching, and for work, or maybe just as an excuse, I ended up filming him. Youri was someone I encountered in the middle of the city in Berlin. I missed the first chance to talk to him, but somehow we crossed paths again in another place. The odds of both moments happening must have been close to zero.
I realized it wasn’t just the circumstances after all. Both moments had truly happened, unfolding one after another like a continuous roll of film. Each scene quietly overlapped the next, slipping gently into my field of vision, shaping a small, personal drama all my own.
